It's a good day! :)

76°F Feels Like 76°F

It's a shockingly gorgeous day outside! I mean, apparently all we really needed was 12 hours of torrential rain/wind after all! ;)

In other news, due to above mentioned torrential rain/wind starting hard about about 6... I didn't go to the SOS meeting. I mean, I feel really bad because I haven't been to a meeting since right before we went to Michigan, but I figured I'd either A) get struck by lightning, B) get blown away, C) get hailed on, or D) get struck by lightning, so I didn't go. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad me! :looks ashamed:

In other news, I was NOT struck by lightning Tuesday night. ;) ;)

Random Temp Rant

It's currently: 95°F Feels Like 106°F

In Anchorage, AK it's: 59°F Feels Like 59°F

In Austin, TX it's: 91°F Feels Like 96°F

Which all equals out to the fact that it's WARMER by the northern border of the good ol' U S of A then it is by the southern one.

Fair? I think not.

Logical? Even less so.

$41 Billion Cost Projected To Remove Illegal Entrants- Washington Post

"The study estimates that it would cost about $28 billion per year to apprehend illegal immigrants, $6 billion a year to detain them, $500 million for extra beds, $4 billion to secure borders, $2 million to legally process them and $1.6 billion to bus or fly them home."

K, call me crazy... But I'm all for this.

On the REALLY bright trade-off side, we no longer have to spend billions when these people try and milk our system for all it's worth plus some.

... And then, we let the sharks with lasers in the Rio Grande, etc, do the jobs they were meant to do!

Book List... 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (and Al Franken is #37)

100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (and Al Franken is #37)

"FROM THE PUBLISHER

In the process of becoming more tolerant, Goldberg says, America has become indiscriminately tolerant - tolerant of all sorts of garbage in our culture. And this is not the work of some vague, irresistible natural force. Specific people are to blame, and Goldberg names names. 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America is an important, hard-hitting, sometimes laugh-out-loud take on the individuals who are personally responsible for our current state of affairs.

A slow poison is running through America’s veins, says Bernie Goldberg. It’s a poison that is turning America into a far nastier place than it ought to be, a more selfish and cynical place, a less decent and civil place. It’s easy to believe that it’s nobody’s fault; that this is just the way society has evolved. But that’s not true. There are specific individuals who, in various ways, are screwing things up in this county - people who are changing America in ways that erode its very ethical and moral underpinnings.

100 People is about those villains - about the various poisons they spread and the damage each does. In short, this is a book about the very real people who are doing us very real harm - people who, Goldberg says, need to be held accountable.

In a series of short, punchy, sometimes funny chapters, Goldberg introduces the specific types: the Schlockmeisters, the Pinstripe Crooks, the Intellectual Thugs, the Hollywood Loudmouths, and the American Jackals, (a.k.a. The Out-for-Themsleves-Screw-Everyone-Else Lawyers). Then Goldberg names 100 of the worst - from people like Jerry Springer and Ludacris to Michael Moore and Al Franken.

This book will tap into a deep frustration that has been building in this country for years. It will be the voice for all those Americans who feel that no one is speaking for them on perhaps the most vital issue of all: the kind of country in which they want to live."

Excellent book, but, as Goldberg says in his opening, no one else in the world is going to think he got all the right people OR he got them in the right order, but it's too darn close to be ignored!

To pick a random chapter:

*Ingrid Newkirk #49 (PETA)*

"Six million Jews did in the concentration camps but six billion broiler chickens will die this year in slaughterhouses." -IN, Washington Post, Nov. 13, 1983

"Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we'd be against it." -IN, Vogue, Sept. 1989

"There's no rational basis for saying that a human being has special rights. A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. They're all mammals." -IN, (same article as above)

'Want more? Try this: After learning of a horrific suicide bombing in Israel, Newkirk wrote a letter to Yasser Arafat- because a donkey was used.

"We have recieved many calls and letters from people shocked by the bombing in Jerusalem, in which a donkey, laden with explosives, was intentionally blown up," she wrote to Arafat. "If you have the oppurtunity, will you please add to your burdens my request that you appeal to all those who listen to you to leave the animals out of the conflict?"

'When Washington Post columist asked Newkirk if she would try to persuade Arafat not to blow people up too, she replied, "It's not my business to inject myself into human wars."'

Woooooooooooooooooooooah.... Talk about someone who's missing several bulbs upstairs, right? Makes me ill...

(And before anyone asks, this is a review of my summer/spring reading list in bits and part- I haven't read them all in the last week, lol. I mean, limit to what else I could have done during my sister's swim practice, right?)

Wow, I'm an idiot...

Well, after all that, I go and FORGET the school board meeting last night! WHAT is WRONG with me? :look of self loathing: I mean, since I'm sure Duff and Hackney miss me giving them the death glare so much and all...

However, SOS PAC meeting tonight, at the church, 7-9 sharp (Mr. Whipple keeps us in line and on the dot) if you two can make it- since Tuesday's a better day them most of the rest of the week for you guys, right?

I mean, regular SOS is all well/good/fantastic and all, but you get the REALLY hard core politcal minded people at the PAC meetings- and these are the people I really like but couldn't bring myself to talk politics with in 999 of 1000 situations, so that should prove how much everyone cares about this, lol.

Anyways, be sure to give Ian Derby hits at Recall the Board- and the SOS website should be up soon, but I think I heard Ian was out of town and couldn't work on it now. Kid had mad website skills he picked up apparently in a Multimedia Tech class at HHS I tried to get into for four years and couldn't... (But I'm not bitter at all... Really...)

HCSD BOE MEETING TIME HAS BEEN CHANGED

Back to 7 pm TONIGHT in the media center. You know I'll be there front and center for the "pleasure" of glaring daggers at Duff, Hackney and MaW. Care to join me?

Also, since I messed up with getting you the times last week, I'm fairly sure there's an SOS PAC meeting tomorrow night- either the church or the library, I'll be sure to check which.

Since Betsy's not going to be in Cleveland and Maggie might (?) be done on time, would you be interested in joining us? You know I'm just going to keep bugging/begging until you do/can! ;) ;)

Book List... Porn Generation: How Social Liberalism Is Corrupting Our Future

Porn Generation: How Social Liberalism Is Corrupting Our Future

Also by Ben Sharpio and, if possible, even better then his first book! Topics discussed within CAN be disturbing at times- but it's all in context and mostly it's nothing more sewer-level then what I have to listen to any time my brother turns up his music, lol.

Witty, insiteful, and again with all the facts and more to back up how far down the toliet are generation is going to flush itself if we don't step up and make a change.

Another five star rating for Ben! *****

Book List... Brainwashed: How Universities Indoctrinate America's Youth

Brainwashed: How Universities Indoctrinate America's Youth

Definate recomendation for everyone... Especially the two people who I know read this all the time!

Lovely detailing, research, examples... And Ben Sharpio was only 20 when he wrote this! Youngest sydicated columist in the country, I believe I remember reading.

Anyways, our library doesn't have it (of course, seeing how it makes complete and total NONsense to have a new library this big and a grand total of less the 30 polical commentary books- most of which written by Al Franken or his ilk) but it's in a lot of the other libraries in our system.

Definate five star book! *****

:diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiies:

Blah, the weather channel online currently says that it's
89°F
Feels Like
103°F
No wonder I felt like dropping dead of humidity induced heat exaustion when I was just out! Stupid weather... This must be the stuff that hit Chicago that we were talking about last night Betsy- yuck!

That's it, I'm either moving to Alaska (where even the local Democrats think we should drill for oil) or heading back down south where we got the hot WITHOUT the humid!

Update for Weds!

"News from SOS Coalition.

As promised we will have a meeting on Wednesday night at 7:00PM at the Barlow Community Center. There is a chance the meeting may be moved but SOS Coalition will advise tomorrow."

So, if we save her a seat, can Betsy sneak in the back or should we just secretly tape-record the entire session for her? ;) ;)

Haha, ANY truth in this?

Slow and Steady
Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy.

They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder.

It'd really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment.

They expect you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then usually decide against it.

Either I did this REALLY wrong, or they're REALLY out to lunch, lol! ;) ;)

Your Blogging Type Is Thoughtful and Considerate
You're a well liked, though underrated, blogger.
You have a heart of gold, and are likely to blog for a cause.
You're a peaceful blogger - no drama for you!
A good listener and friend, you tend to leave thoughtful comments for others.

You are elegant, withdrawn, and brilliant.
Your mind is a weapon, able to solve any puzzle.
You are also great at poking holes in arguments and common beliefs.

For you, comfort and calm are very important.
You tend to thrive on your own and shrug off most affection.
You prefer to protect your emotions and stay strong.

Or below... I can see truth in either one of these, lol. (I haven't posted in a week and I make you read this... Are you disapointed in me?

You are dependable, popular, and observant.
Deep and thoughtful, you are prone to moodiness.
In fact, your emotions tend to influence everything you do.

You are unique, creative, and expressive.
You don't mind waving your freak flag every once and a while.
And lucky for you, most people find your weird ways charming!

I'm going with NO on this one, lol.

Your Inner European is Russian!

Mysterious and exotic.

You've got a great balance of danger and allure.

I REALLY think they should have asked more questions about my political leanings on this. I would either kill/be killed if suddenly in Russian, lol.

Java, java, java, java, javaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

You are a Black Coffee

At your best, you are: low maintenance, friendly, and adaptable

At your worst, you are: cheap and angsty

You drink coffee when: you can get your hands on it

Your caffeine addiction level: high

As one of my nicknames in middle school/high school WAS Coffee... I can see it, lol.
You Are 84% American
You're as American as red meat and shooting ranges.
Tough and independent, you think big.
You love everything about the US, wrong or right.
And anyone who criticizes your home better not do it in front of you!

ONLY 84%???? There is something VERY wrong with this "test". :seethes:

What English Speaking Country Do You Belong In?

You Belong in the USA

Sweet!
People either love you or hate you
And you really don't care what anyone thinks
Big and bold, you do things your way

Well, we all saw this coming, didn't we? ;)

Independence Day By The Numbers

PATRIOTIC PLACES

30
Number of places nationwide with “liberty” in their name. The most populous one is Liberty, Mo. (27,982). Iowa, with four, has more of these places than any other state: Libertyville, New Liberty, North Liberty and West Liberty.

ELEVEN
Number of places that have “independence” in their name. The most populous of
these is Independence, Mo., with 112,079 residents.

FIVE
The number of places that have adopted the name “freedom.” Freedom, Calif., with 6,000 residents, has the largest population among these.

FIVE
And what could be more fitting than spending the Fourth of July in a place called “America”? There are five such places in the country, with the most populous being American Fork, Utah, population 22,876.

ONE
There is one place named “patriot” ? Patriot, Ind., with a population of 196.

Hmmmm... Thought there'd be more Patriots, didn't you? Kudos to Drudge for having this posted!

And, for the important post of the day...

HAPPY 4th OF JULY!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!

(And now, for fun with potentially hazardous sparklers...)

Irony of the day...

Maggie had this article posted, but I wanted to comment specifically for one point, so I have officially stolen it.

"Being Irish, and having a tendency to see the cloud inside every silver lining, I may tend to exaggerate the feeling that things aren't going well, and that all just might be lost."

And maybe it's just my relatives... But I find this statement scarily true, lol. ;) ;)

Giving out some online lovin'...

I think I am half "in love" with these groups from this news article alone... I mean, if they can piss all these people off at one go, lol. ;) ;)

Our justice system is on crack.

"Becker County, Minn., District Judge Thomas Schroeder, who had set bail at $15,000 despite prosecutors' request that it be $25,000, said Sunday that he barely remembers the case and isn't sure if he knew then that the man was a registered Level 3 sex offender.

"Usually on a bail hearing you have limited information, and so you set it in an amount that you think is appropriate," the judge said. He said if he had known Duncan's record, he would have set it high enough that Duncan would not have gone free."
